If you are felling trees or sawing firewood at home or in the forest, our forestry tools are the powerful and reliable pieces of equipment you need for every situation. You’ll notice this right away with our felling and splitting wedges, not to mention other STIHL forestry tools such as hookaroons, lifting tongs, Swiss bush hooks, and drag hooks and pulp hooks with comfort handles.
Whether you have to deal with wood occasionally or every day, you can be sure that your work will always be effective..
A cleaving axe has a wedge-shaped axe head that makes fast, effective work of cutting through short logs and firewood. A single stroke is often all that’s needed to split wood in half, or to make it the right size for a cleaving hatchet. Even wood up to a diameter of 50 cm can be tackled with a STIHL cleaving axe – just use the back of the axe head as a hammer together with a wedge to separate the wood along its grain. When you need an efficient tool for felling and pruning trees, reach for one of our forestry hand axes. Durable materials, excellent balance and a rounded blade ensure that you can work with precision across the grain. Just like our hatchets, STIHL forestry and cleaving axes in classic wooden-handled design are also available as high-tech models with the axe head permanently integrated into a weather-resistant polyamide handle.
Driven into the trunk at just the right spot, STIHL splitting, felling and cutting wedges help to drop a tree in the right direction, and to split logs cleanly. You can choose between aluminium or plastic wedges in a variety of sizes. Our special twisted splitting wedge offers excellent and reliable hold and good penetration, even in frozen wood. Are splitting wedges too long for harvesting your thin timber? Simply use our felling lever, which will give you the leverage you need even without a wedge. And if delimbing the trunk is the next job on your list, the integrated cant hook lets you turn the trunk to whatever angle you need. As an alternative, our practical hand lifting tongs are great for this task, too. Finally, protect your back when moving wood by using one of our hookaroons or a drag hook. Choose between a compact hand hookaroon or a longer aluminium hookaroon to suit the job you're doing.
Do you want to split thick, metre-long pieces of hardwood directly or using wedges? The STIHL hand hatchet is a tool designed specifically for this task. Even the toughest wood cannot withstand this tremendous forestry hand tool for long. But if it does, you can simply use the hammer-shaped back of the hatchet head to drive in a plastic or aluminium wedge. The forged hatchet head also has a reversible tip that you can use to move your wood after splitting, as you would a hookaroon.
