A helmet or other kind of ear and face protection is essential for many tasks. Here at STIHL, we have a wide-ranging offering to support your safety.
Head protection is recommended and often even stipulated for many tasks using chainsaws. Several aspects are covered by head protection. A robust protective helmet protects the head against falling branches, boughs or objects. Face protection, such as a shield or visor helps avoid injuries to the face from whirled-up cuttings or stones. Hearing protection is particularly recommended when working with petrol-driven power tools.
Essentially, we recommend wearing the head protection PPE (personal protective equipment) stated in the operating instructions whenever you are using any of our STIHL power tools. Depending on the respective application, this includes safety glasses, hearing protection, a protective helmet and much more.
A forestry safety helmet provides the head with comprehensive protection. It consists of a plastic helmet in a set with hearing protection and face protection equipment, such as a visor or shield.. In this way, a forestry safety helmet offers protection for the entire head. This significantly minimises the risk of injury during forestry work.
Our helmet sets are as light as possible whilst also being very sturdy, meaning that they are comfortable to wear. The face protection visor protects against splinters of wood that may be flying around, for example during sawing work. It consists of a transparent plastic window, sturdy wire mesh, or fine nylon fabric. Woven face protection is less sensitive than a window, which is more susceptible to scratches. However, acrylic glass offers some useful advantages. Our forestry safety helmets have hearing protection against noise emissions, which can be damaging to health.
In order for your ears to be safely protected against unpleasant noise, wearing hearing protection when using certain motorised power tools is recommended. The operating instructions for your power tool will tell you whether ear protection is recommended when using it. In any case, employers are obliged to provide their employees with appropriate ear and head protection in the event of exposure to noise levels of 85 dB(a) and above. The safety requirements of European standard EN 352 must be met.
We offer a wide range of hearing protection sets for working with motorised power tools such as chainsaws or cut-off machines. Noise protection is indicated in accordance with the EN 352 standard with respect to the three frequency ranges: (H) stands for high, (M) for medium (L) for low frequencies. The insulation property, stated as SNR, describes the difference between the actual volume and the volume that reaches the eardrum when using hearing protection.
Our ear protection sets and ear plugs effectively dampen the noise level and as such the noise emissions of the motorised power tools. This means that motorised work is gentler on the user’s ear – regardless of whether you decide on ear protection sets or earplugs.
You can find a wide selection of head and hearing protection equipment, as well as face protection visors and shields, including sets in the STIHL online shop.
